time, but Kalki, who is relatively new to the industry, is not losing sleep over it. “I am not the kind of person who thinks about how many lines do I have to deliver, how much footage would I get in a film or whether my co-actor has a stronger part than me,” says the French-born actor, adding that she has complete faith in her director, Zoya Akhtar.
“Zoya says exactly what she feels about something or someone. Be it Hrithik, Katrina, Farhan (Akhtar), Abhay or myself, she treats everyone at the same level,” says Kalki. “I really enjoy the balance that she brings in when it comes to merging real and commercial cinema, as seen in Luck By Chance. My priority is to get the script and the director right and I found them both here,” she says.
In the film, Kalki plays an upper class Mumbai girl who is about to get engaged to the character played by Abhay Deol. This is the second time she is working with Abhay, after making her Bollywood debut opposite him in Dev D. Talking about Deol, she says, “I’m quite comfortable work with Abhay. We’ve been pals since Dev D days.” After relatively heavy duty films like Dev D, Shaitan and the little known Emotional Atyachar, Kalki has managed to let her hair down for ZNMD.
However, the actor is quite serious about her performance. “Even if a subject matter is light, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it is easy to bring it on screen. Sometimes even the lightest of the scenes can be quite tough to enact,” she says.
Elaborating on the different genres of films that she has been acting in, Kalki says, “It was some experience working in Shaitan; there was a lot of psychological element involved there and now Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is turning out to be a contrasting experience.”
